Andreas Shick recently joined the team at Grand Capital Advisors as an investment advisor. You can read more about Andreas’ background in his bio on the Meet The Team page. To get to know him a little bit better, we had him answer a few questions:
If you could return to one place you have visited on vacation, where would it be?
Germany. I was born there, but we moved back to Michigan when I was one year old. We visited again when I was six, so I do have a few memories such as touring an old castle and trying to speak German to the nice lady we bought pretzels from. It would be awesome to see again as an adult.
What was your first car (year, make and model)?
2009 Pontiac Vibe. Not the flashiest car, but it should retain its value and will hopefully last a while. I paid for it with cash so no debt!
What is the best book that you have read?
From a practical standpoint I would say Principals by Ray Dalio. It is basically a strategy guide on how to succeed in the game of life and stresses the importance of constant improvement by trying something, failing, learning, and trying again. For entertainment it has to be A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.
What is your favorite movie?
Inception. I like movies that make you question “what’s really going on here?” and keep you mentally engaged. The deception during the movie and twist at the end kept me guessing the whole time.
What is your favorite sports team?
I like all the Detroit sports teams and even though they have been terrible lately, my favorite is the Lions. I love playing fantasy football and watching the NFL. Lions and Red Wings games are what I watch most.
What type of music do you prefer to listen to?
I like a variety of genres. Rap, pop, rock, electronic, I’ll even throw on some classical music now and again. I like to mix it up to keep things fresh.
What was your favorite subject in school?
I enjoyed anything with real world practical applications; statistics was always one of my favorites.
Who has most influenced you?
My Mom. She has a kind personality and fun-loving outlook on life that I admire. She has taught me many valuable life lessons which I’ve carried forward to my day to day interactions with others.
